About Event

The goal of the interdisciplinary seminar series Computation & Data at HSU is to bring together researchers and foster exchange on the development of algorithms, methods and software. The seminar series is typically scheduled for the last Wednesday every month, 16:00-18:00, with 1-2 presentations per hybrid session (digital and at HSU).

Feel free to subscribe the seminar newsletter by sending an e-mail to info-hpc-bw@hsu-hh.de with the subject line „Subscription Seminar Computation & Data”.

Markus Klein (UniBw M): Towards LES of Liquid Jet Atomization Using an Eulerian-Lagrangian Multiscale Approach

The predictive simulation of industry-scale atomizers remains difficult to date. While LES based on a combination of interface capturing and Lagrangian particle tracking is a promising strategy, the modeling of the sub-grid scale terms and the limited understanding of primary atomization present major challenges. The presentation discusses the role of primary and secondary atomization on the basis of a high-fidelity DNS. Moreover, a multiscale approach for the LES of complex sprays is proposed.

Marcel Dickmann (UniBw M): Two-Component Density Functional Theory Calculations of Positron Lifetimes at HSUper

Positron Annihilation Lifetime Spectroscopy (PALS) is a powerful method for detecting lattice defects in crystalline materials, which significantly influence their macroscopic properties. Interpreting PALS data requires calculations based on two-component density functional theory (TCDFT). Using the HSUper cluster and the ABINIT software package, we optimized calculation parameters for efficiency and accuracy. We present comparisons of our calculated values with experimentally obtained positron lifetime spectra.
